When you think of shutters, what comes to mind? White plantation shutters that have been around since the test of time? Don’t worry, most people do. That’s normally what we design. However, in some rare cases you get houses that can’t do the classic shutter look and need something more custom to fit the style of their house. Take for instance, this job in Manhattan Beach Cory did a year ago. The kitchen was modern with all dark wood and marble. He was hesitant in doing anything because he didn’t know what would work. But when my mom took a look at what he was working with, she came up with the design concept of custom stained shutters that matched his cabinetry and didn’t add a standard tilt bar. So bottom line is this, don’t be afraid to take design risks! The best designs come from thinking outside the box.
